What is the easiest way to contact you?
By far the easiest is to email us at customer.service@andersonleatherworks.com. You can also call us at (737) 757-0273, and we do try to answer the phone, but it's not always easy as this is a very small shop.
I just got a new wallet from you, but I can only fit 1 card in per slot.
That is correct. It's a brand-new wallet, not the leather is not stretched. We recommend starting with 1 card per slot. As the leather stretches to accommodate the card, you can add another. In a few weeks, it should be stretched enough for you to easily pull the cards out without losing them.
Why does something as simple as a key fob take "2 days"?
Everything we make goes through the same process. We cut it, oil it and let it dry (This is a 12+ hour process to allow it to fully absorb in and help protect the leather). then we start putting it together and sewing it.

I really like your Roper Wallet, but I have some Elk Hide I’d prefer it done with. Would you do that?
Absolutely. But - and this is a huge BUT -, you must send us the hide you want to use. So, what are the steps?
1)Contact us – if you just send us a hide and a note, we *will* send it back.
2)After we have communicated and we’ve agreed to look at the leather, you need to send it to us
3)Once we get it, we will inspect the leather to ensure it will hold up. If we think it’s not too thin or old, we will contact you with a quote (note: the price will not be negotiable)
a.If we do not feel the3 quality of the hide is up to par, we will contact you, letting you know we will be shipping it back.
4)We make a special product item with the agreed upon price. Once paid for, we will add it to the production line to make. We will also give you an approximate time of approximately how long to ship it.
Very Important – As this is custom work, there are no refunds unless there is a flaw in our materials (thread, hardware). If the leather itself fails for some unforeseen reason, we will not be held responsible.
I have an idea for something I'd love for you to create for me, can you do that?
Can we? Yes, we can, but we typically don't do custom design work.
Why don't you do custom design work?
As a follow-up to the above - It takes time to design, mock-up and then come out with a product. Everything we do is with many people in mind, thus cutting the cost down. Let's walk through the process of our Swivel-Snap Key Fob. First, we draw out what we are talking about, make a paper mock-up to see that it's the right size. Then we go to the computer and start creating the design. In the case of this key fob, it took about 1 hour - more complex designs can take a few days. This process is where we add all the sewing holes and any other things we need to cut out. We then save it and print it out. Then we make a mock-up using card stock or other non-leather, thick product. This actually took 2 tries, the first one didn't quite make the size we thought it would. Once we know the design is solid, we save it to PDF, and print it again. This ensures we actually print what we want at the size we want. Then we put it on the leather, punch the holes, cut it out and oil it. We then set it aside to dry. The following business day we add the hardware and sew it together.
Custom work means we are making something for one person which we may or may not be able to sell to others, therefore the entire cost of the project (labor, leather, hardware, mock-ups, etc.) are on the customer.
Custom work - we've done it before - is at $50 per hour with a minimum of 1 hour and then billed at 30 minutes increments. Total time of that simple key fob from design to product was about 2 hours + leather + hardware. So you would be looking at a cost of $100 for the labor of design and mock-up. Add the leather and the hardware, and you are now looking at another $25 - $30. But we can sell this particular design to many people and so we discount the labor, break the R&D over approximately 500+ key fobs - so now the cost of the R&D is pennies. Now that we've done all the designing and have a PDF, we can print and make the key fob in less than 30 minutes (actual time - it may take longer to actually get it shipped due to already prepared stock, orders in front of yours, etc.) - this does not take into account the oiling of it - just the pure physical time it takes. We cut it out, punch the holes, oil it and set it aside for drying. As we typically allow it to soak in for 8-12 hours - we put it together the next day. So now, instead of paying $100+ for the key fob, we can offer it to you for $35. And this is why we try to stay away from custom design work.
What is your process for creating some of your bags, wallets, etc.?
We're glad you asked - Please see "Why don't you do custom work?" above. We give a detailed creating process from design to completion.
What type of leather am I getting?
Almost everything we make uses Oil Tanned or Veg Tan Cow Hide. We do have pig suede for those products where we need something very thin and soft as a lining - but we hardly ever use it.
How do I know I'm not getting Pig Suede in my product?
Unless we specifically state "lined with pig suede", you won't get any.
How do we take care of our product?
What a great question. All leather needs to be kept up. In-house, we use Obenauf's Oil and LP (for items that will take a beating in the weather). There are many great products out there to use. Typically, you put a thin coat on - don't soak it. Allow it to sit a few minutes (10-15 should be plenty of time). And then buff your item with a soft, lint free cloth. This should be done once every year or two - depending on where you live.
Why does my product come darker than it looks like?
We're glad you asked. As we state above, we oil our products. This will darken leather . especially lighter leather. And you will need to do this periodically (once every year or two - depending on where you live). Over the next few weeks, you will notice that it will become lighter.
Also - it is very important to note that using leather will darken it as it gets oil from your hands, sunlight, etc. This is a natural occurrence. Many people who have our Roper Wallets love the dark rich look it gets over time. You can oil it to take some of that out - it will get darker until the oil is fully absorbed (a few days to a couple of weeks). But that is no guarantee it will ever get back to the original shade.
I've read that you oil your leather, but my product is still darker than my friends who bought it a few weeks ago.
Like anything, Oil Tanned hides are a process of tanning that also adds coloring to it. It is extremely difficult, during that process, to exactly match the exact shade of a different batch. So, the tannery may produce 100s of hides at one shade, then do it to more, but the shade is off from the previous shade. It's like buying paint. You give them to colors to use, but even the "pure" colors may be slightly off - so your shade is slightly off.
Why does there appear to be a double stitch on some edges and corners but not others?
Great eye! As we hand stitch most items, we try to identify stress points - areas where there will be more use and possible pulling/stretching, such as credit card slots. Where there are stress points, we like to double-stitch there to ensure a great hold. On areas where there is a corner but no stress (Our Snap Wallet has that near the back of the cover), we don't double stitch.
I'm looking for a holster for my pistol
At this time we do not do fixed-blade knife sheaths or holsters for guns.
